Empowerment during divorce

We have frequently observed that the divorce process can be uniquely stressful and emotionally draining. It is important to prepare for the challenges in order to be able to meet them to the best of your ability. Similarly, it is important to process any negative responses you may have in regards to these challenges so that these responses do not come out “sideways” and unintentionally compromise your ability to receive the divorce settlement you deserve or your ability to create a healthy and happy future for yourself.

While processing any negative consequences of the divorce process or any negative reactions you may be having in response to the process, it can be helpful to keep certain empowering thoughts in mind. Key phrases and snippets of wisdom can help you to remember that while many of the negative elements of the divorce process are largely out of your control, your self-care and emotional process are squarely within your control.

The “wisdom phrases” and empowering thoughts that you may benefit from may change over time. For example, you may need to carry the word “mourn” around with you during the early months of the process. This word may serve to remind you that you need to take time to grieve your relationship, especially if you feel so guarded or harried that you have yet to take time to do so.

As time moves on, you may choose to embrace the cliché “taking the high road.” This phrase can help to remind you that you will not benefit from “sinking” to the low levels that either your spouse or some of your loved ones may have embraced during this process. All in all, a little wisdom can go a long way if you allow it to.
