If you have decided to file for divorce, you are likely concerned about finding the right divorce attorney to represent your case. It is important that you hire an attorney who is a good fit for your unique situation. But how do you know when an attorney is a good fit?
First, it is important that any attorney you are thinking about hiring does not make you feel unnecessarily uncomfortable. If your gut is telling you that a prospective candidate is not right for you, do not be afraid to listen to your body’s cues.
Second, it is important that your attorney is forthcoming about financial issues. Attorneys need to be able to explain their fees clearly. In addition, if you have questions about legal fees and a candidate dodges those questions, this is not usually a good sign.
Third, you should feel free to ask attorney candidates any questions you have about your case during a consultation. Coming to consultations prepared with questions will help you to determine if the individual you are interviewing at any given time has the same vision for your case that you do.
Finally, take time to research any attorney you are thinking about hiring. An attorney’s website should give you a sense of his or her style, values and priorities. In addition, numerous websites which provide ratings and feedback should give you some sense of whether most of an attorney’s clients walk away contented with that attorney’s guidance, approach and style of communication.
